>>The Tournament Season is Winding Down
This time of year is an interesting one for us as parents of junior golfers. For starters, I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted from the summer season of golf between the tournaments, family travel, hot weather, and everything else that
comes along with summer. It's also back-to-school time, which means we have to quickly switch gears and get into a new routine.
In some parts of the country, this means the junior golf tournament season is also winding down, while others like where we live in Georgia, continue throughout the Fall. It becomes increasingly challenging to balance traveling for tournaments and maintaining the
focus on academics.
So this leads me to my next question, what should off-season training look like for our junior golfers, whether they're playing a couple of tournaments or none? Their bodies are always growing and changing, but they need the repetition of solid practice sessions even during a busy school year. We all know how rusty golfers can get in a short amount of
time!
Some techniques we've seen our junior golfers use in the off-season include:
- Start using indoor practice aids, including putting mats, swing sticks, and a launch monitor like the Skytrak.
- Focus more on nutrition, while building strength and conditioning.
- If available to you, you can purchase a
swing analysis and get more technical feedback.
- Start incorporating lessons or readings on the mental focus aspect of golf. This one is huge!
- Think about and start writing down the goals for next year and what you want to achieve.
- Don't forget, it's a perfect time for your golfer to relax and have a fun round with friends, without the pressure of a
tournament.
In the coming weeks, we're going to have more information for you as parents on helping your junior golfer set goals and establish mental focus habits.
