I'm so glad to send out this week's newsletter for the Junior Golf Playbook. We are based in Augusta, Georgia and it's been almost two weeks since Hurricane Helene came in and devastated our community and beyond.

While our house was spared from too much damage, so many of our neighbors weren't so fortunate. We finally have power, internet, and cell phone service. As much damage as we've seen around here though, it pales in comparison to what Western Carolina is going through. 

I'm thankful we can start picking up the pieces, which includes resuming our weekly newsletter. Thanks for being here today!

Hole #5 at West Lake Country Club in Martinez, GA. This was after Hurricane Helene came through on September 26th. The golf course maintenance crews have done an amazing job of getting the golf course back in shape.

➡️ Let's Talk Tournaments for a Moment

Right before Hurricane Helene came through, I had a great conversation with our friends over at Junior Golf Hub. We both agreed that junior golf tournament selection is one of the most pressing topics for most of the parents right now, no matter if it's in the dead of winter or busy summer season.

Tournament selection can feel overwhelming, to say the least. I get it too. As a junior golf parent myself, we were constantly asking if we were entering in the right ones. Would it be challenging enough? Would it be too challenging? How far would we need to travel and spend on accommodations? 

The bottom line is it's not a one-size-fits-all approach for selecting tournaments. You have to choose what's best for your golfer and family. However, Junior Golf Hub put together this visual that I think is super helpful if you're looking for further guidance.

How did you start playing golf?

Inspired by my golfing great-grandmother Kay Smith from Japan and my PGA golfer great-grandfather Carter Smith.

What is your favorite thing about golf?

I love competing and the challenge of the game. The best part is being outside walking beautiful courses.

What part of the game are you working on now?

Working on my short game to keep lowering my score.

What is your favorite ice cream 🍦 flavor?

Banana pudding ice cream.

What other hobbies do you have?

When I am not playing golf, I enjoy running, tumbling and competition cheer at Augusta Cheer Academy.
